Vicki

Vicki

My full name is…
Vicki Saik.

But my friends call me…
Vix.

I grew up…
Fearless.

You will usually find me…
Seeking beauty in everyday life.

Right now I am…
Rocking my littlest to sleep in the carrier.

The view from my bedroom window…
Is tropical greenery and red tower gingers.

The scent of home is…
Rice cooking.

 The perfect morning…
Is waking feeling recharged from an uninterrupted night's sleep, followed by cuddles and breakfast in bed.

The perfect evening…
With kids is a picnic dinner, dip in the ocean, watching the sunset and kids falling asleep in the car on the way home.

Without kids is dinner, dancing, undressing and kissing.

I feel inspired…
By love.
And nature always inspires.

Three words that describe me are…
Attention to detail.

Being a mother is…
A transformative treasure and every mother needs to value herself like so.

My favourite place in the world…
Is where we live right now on Bundjalung Country, Australia.

I’m currently reading…

On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous - Ocean Vuong

Devotions - Mary Oliver

Dress Up JoJo - Xavier Deneux  (to my 10 month old)

Telephone Tales - Gianni Rodari (to my 5 year old)

Writing for me is…
Intimate.

In 2024 I want to learn…
To do more things outside of my comfort zone
and consistency with my ikebana studies.

 Before becoming a mother I was…
Working in the film industry and nowhere near as efficient as I am now!

In the future I hope to…
Be in good health sharing life with the people I love.

I unwind…
By going for walks in nature, or binge watching TV (nowadays this feels like a luxury!).

My favourite flower is…
Camellia.

My favourite body part is…
Hands.

My favourite snack is…
Butter on bread/veg.

Our family tradition…
Growing up, we would often go for a leisurely stroll around the block after dinner to digest before bath and bed. In Cantonese, this is referred to as ‘tick tohr.’ I try to include a little ‘tick tohr’ in our evening wind down routine.

I am hopeful for…
Human compassion to oneself and one another.

I am looking forward to…
Making beauty with others
More time for myself
Sharing home cooked meals with friends old and new
Adventures with my family
My biggest starting school
My littlest sleeping through the night…
